Cochrane family genealogy
Welcome!
You’re free to have a look at any of the public pages on this site, but please respect copyright.
I created this site to organize my own family history and to display various media that I have collected about my ancestors. If you happen to have any further information about any of the individuals on these pages, I would love to hear from you!
My ancestors come from a number of origins – mainly the UK (Scotland and England), but the routes that they took are all very different.
Surnames that you will see on the site include the following (you can find narratives for many of these lines as submenu items):
- Cochrane – originally from Scotland, but came to Canada (Nova Scotia) via Ireland. Family now in Manitoba, Ontario, and B.C.
- Gilmour – ancestors in Scotland, family with business interests in Canada (lumber, ship building), merges with Russell (2)
- Howland – ancestors from the UK who immigrated to the American colonies in the early 1600s
- McIntyre – originally from Scotland, immigrated to Canada in the early 1900s (Manitoba), merged with Cochrane
- Morden – originally from England, immigrated to the American colonies and then to Canada as United Empire Loyalists, merges with Russell (1)
- Ross – ancestors from Ireland who immigrated to Canada (Nova Scotia), merges with Cochrane
- Russell (1) – originally from the UK, immigrated to the US, came to Canada as United Empire Loyalists (Prince Edward County, Ontario) and then to Manitoba, merged with McIntyre
- Russell (2) – originally from Scotland, immigrated to Canada following World War I, merged with Cochrane
- Wastle – originally from England, immigrated to Manitoba, merged with Russell (1)
